8vo.; original mid-grey cloth pictorially blocked in darker blue to spine and upper cover, top edges greyish-purple, in pictorial dustwrapper; pp. [viii], [9]-255; with full colour frontispiece and 7 black-and-white illustrations; an uncommonly bright, fresh, and sharp copy with some marking to top edge of book block, internally clean and unmarked save light foxing to prelims, without ownership marks or inscriptions, preserved in the very scarce unclipped, and totally unrestored, dustwrapper (3/6 net) with light overall dust-soiling, rubbing, and narrow chipping to spine ends (largest loss 8 x 4mm), and to forecorners of upper panel, with a couple of short closed edge tears (longest 15mm) and a little associated creasing; a remarkably scarce pre-War Biggles title, especially so in the jacket, in this condition.
First edition, first issue; spine 5cm thick. This copy conforms to all the points of the scarce first impression of this work with the 4 sea-planes, in diminishing size, blocked to the upper cover and the bi-plane to the spine. The dustwrapper is correctly priced at 3/6 net and the lower panel carries the book list in the correct order, commencing with Flies East and ending with Biggles & Co..
