BARTON, Rose (author and illustrator). Familiar London. London; Adam & Charles Black, 1904.

Large 8vo.; publisher's deep red cloth attractively blocked to an Art Nouveau rose design in scarlet, mustard and green to spine and upper board, titles blocked in gilt, top edges gilt; pp. xii + 208 + [4] publisher's catalogue; with a total of 61 coloured plates protected by captioned tissue-guards; a very good, bright and sharp copy with slight fading and one vertical scuff to spine, internally clean throughout with previous ownership inscriptions to front pastedown and free endpaper; an elusive title.
First edition; one of only 3000 copies. The Anglo-Irish watercolourist Rose Barton (born in Tipperary) was described by a contemporary critique 'not ... strictly ... an ‘Impressionist’, like Claude Monet she was sensitive to the mysterious effect of the famous London fog and she liked to sketch the same views at different times of the day, under changing weather conditions' (1880 exhibition catalogue). Inman 52.
