8vo., original black publisher's boards, with gilt decorative device echoing the jacket, to the upper board; spine lettered in gilt; vibrant yellow jacket; decorative endpapers; pp. [vi], 7-265, [vii]; aside from a small dent to the upper board, a fine copy.
First edition. The number of copies printed of this contribution to the Lord Horror series is unknown; some have postulated that it may be lower than 20.
Lord Horror was the last publication to be banned under the Obscene Publications Act in 1992.. It was the first novel since Last Exit to Brooklyn (1968) to be banned in an English court. Lord Horror is a character based on Lord Haw-Haw, the wartime Nazi apologist; other characters include an anti-semitic police chief crudely based on James Anderton, once Chief Constable of the Greater Manchester Police.
