BALLINGTON BOOTH, Maud (author). Alice FARNSWORTH-DREW (illustrator). Lights of Child-Land. New York and London; G.P. Putnam's Sons, The Knickerbocker Press. 1901.

8vo.; publisher's buff cloth finely and beautifully blocked to an Art Nouveau design to upper cover and spine, top edges gilt; pp. [vi]-vii + 193 + [i] + [iv] publisher's catalogue, all printed on coated paper; with full coloured frontispiece, title-page in red and black with the original tissue-guard, 10 full-page plates in half-tones, and wonderful chapter-headings and text decorations in Art Nouveau lines; externally very good and clean with just a little dust-soiling, and minor rubbing, to upper board; internally clean and crisp.
First edition. A collection of improving short stories for the young: "As we place trellis work near the young tendrils of the climbing vines for them to cling to, so should we ever give child-hearts something to love, and the more they reach out to others in tender sympathy, the more will they be linked to that which is sweet and good; unselfish and helpful." (Preface).
Inscribed in ink to front free endpaper (presumably in a secretarial hand), "Alexandra Hamilton from the Prince & Princess of Wales, Christmas 1904". The Prince of Wales (1865-1936) later became King George V and his wife, the Princess of Wales (1867-1953), Queen Mary.
