[VICKERS SONS AND MAXIM LIMITED]. The Visit of His Imperial Japanese Highness Prince Fushimi. London, ENGINEERING, 1907.

Two volumes, oblong 4to. Full red calf and full navy calf binding, boards ruled in gilt; gilt dentelles; top edges gilt; marbled endpapers; unpaginated; with 14 plates of photogravure, 6 of which being full-page to vol. I, and 16 plates of photogravure, 15 of which are full page to vol. II; both volumes with interleaves of explanatory descriptive text; light rubbing to extremities of boards; hinges slightly weakened; minimal offsetting and spotting, a very good set.
With a loosely inserted photocopy of a handwritten programme of the earlier section of the Prince's visit from May 4th to 13th, 1907. Volume I covers Prince Fushimi's visit to the Ordnance Works at Erith, 15th May 1907, and the second volume of his visit to the Naval Construction Works at Barrow-in-Furness, 21st May 1907. Prince Fushimi Hiroyoshi's trip to Britain in 1907 was a significant diplomatic mission during the early 20th century, with the trip working to strengthen diplomatic ties between the two nations, seeing Japan rise to become an increasingly important player on the World Stage.
