Description: Original lithograph with colour, linen backed, as printed by Kunstanstalt Brügger AG Meiringen, published by Lötschberg railway line. The Lötschberg Tunnel is a 14.6 km long railway tunnel on the Lötschberg Line, which connects Spiez and Brig at the northern end of the Simplon Tunnel cutting through the Alps from Switzerland to Italy. Regular service through the Lötschberg Tunnel began in 1913.
Colombi is well known for his Swiss Alps motives and belonged together with Emil Cardinaux to the pioneers of Swiss poster art..

Description: Original copper engraved map with hand colour, after the drawing by Johann Matthias Haas. This map was produced in Nuremburg for the heirs of Johan Baptist Homann (1664–1724). The Homann Heirs’ company continued to operate until 1824.
With decorative cartouche of a scene at the Cape of Good Hope depicting lions, natives and Europeans interacting. Table Bay Mountain in Cape Town can be seen in the distance.

The first item of this truly autumnal newsletter explains where the word 'tycoon' comes from and reports how the first European climbed Fujiyama. Lord Byron's uncle then explores Hawaii. The third book in this short list is probably the first to deal with the Women of the Arabs, more precisely with women in Lebanon and Syria. First edition. Alcock was appointed the first consul-general to Japan following Lord Elgin's treaty with that country in 1858. The admission of foreigners into Japan fermented trouble among the warrior classes culminating in July 1861 with an attack on the British legation, the members of which successfully repelled the assault. First edition of this excellent and early book on Hawaii. The book opens with a history of the discovery of the Hawaiian islands, followed by the account of the Royal visit of the Queen consort of the Kingdom of Hawaii until her death in England from measles. This is followed by the narrative of the journey to return her body and the sojourn in Hawaii, which contains an interesting account of travels to Hilo, and the Volcano, Kealakekua, Lahaina and Honolulu. … more …

First edition, very rare. Probably one of the earliest work dealing with the role of women in society and female education in and around Lebanon and Syria. Jessup was appointed as a missionary to Syria in 1855 by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, then for thirty years was acting pastor of the Syrian Church of Beirut and superintendent of its school. 'Catherina Theodora, second daughter of James Borland of Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire.
