~b~First editon~i~ of this anthropological study of belief systems and magic thinking on the island belonging to Papua New Guinea. Reo Fortune described the Dobuan character as "paranoid", obsessed with black magic, and as having extremely unusual attitudes toward sex and violence. The book is dedicated to his then wife Margaret Mead, and anticipates some of Claude Levi-Strauss' findings about cross-cousin marriage.
